This chapbook titled ‘Catharsis’, meaning a release of emotional tension, and also subtitled “voices of emotion” holds voices from the experience of the year 2020. It is a work on how the lockdown gave us the opportunity to have a reflection about the state of the world. The voices entailed in this work include sadness, uncertainty, pain from loss, domestic violence and voices against corruption. The poet in this body of work tries to take the readers from a joyful ride of childhood to adulthood in the poem “Child in the hood”, “Traveller” and other poems. One tends to enjoy the emotions contain in different poems.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ozota Gerald Obinna writes from somewhere in Enugu, Nigeria. He was long-listed in the 2020 Nigeria Students Poetry Prize with his poems “Walls”. His works have appeared in The Shallow Tale Review, Rising Phoenix Review, Kalahari Review, Praxis Magazine, Grand-Little-Things, Nanty Green and other notable magazines. He is an advocate of mental health and seeks to break stereotypes through his writing.
