PIN FOOD POETRY CONTEST (PFPC) 2017 – THE PRIZE WINNERS
Poets in Nigeria (PIN) is pleased to announce the prize winners for the fourth edition of PIN Food Poetry Contest (PFPC) which opened for submissions on 25th July, 2017.
Adekunle Titus Adeolu, a 300-level medical student of the University of Ibadan, emerged first with his entry – ‘Song of the Hungry’ while Adedayo Adeyemi Agarau, 1st prize winner of the 2015 edition of the contest, clinched the 2nd prize with his poem entitled ‘How we Mourned my Grandmother’. Omipidan Teslim Opemipo came third with his poem entitled ‘Irinajo (A Journey)’.
The Chief Judge, Mabel Okpaefi (Winner of the 2nd edition of the contest) expressed satisfaction with the quality of the poems. She commented thus: “I want to appreciate the organizers of this contest whose loyal efforts and sacrifice have continued to drive this novel initiative. The quality of the poems assessed is commendable and reassuring to the essence of this initiative.”
The prize winners are entitled to a total cash prize of ₦50,000 and a special feature in the anthology of top 50 poems drawn from the contest.
PFPC (initiated in 2013 as Eriata Oribhabor Food Poetry Contest) has produced four grand Prize winners: Estrella Gada (2013), Mabel Okpaefi (2014), Adedayo Adeyemi Agarau (2015) and Adekunle Titus Adeolu (2017).

Let me comment again on the sustained efforts of the organisers of poets in Nigeria for popularising modern poetry in Nigeria. PIN Centres in Nigeria be also commended for their good poetry promotionnal initiatives and the systemic enthronement of poetry expressed in indigenous Nigerian languages.
