UPDATE: NIGERIAN STUDENTS POETRY PRIZE (NSPP) 2017 CONCLUDES PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF ENTRIES
The panel of judges for NSPP 2017 has done a preliminary assessment of poems received during the 2nd edition of the prize which closed to submission on 15th April, 2017.
The 7-man jury including Mallam Denja Abdullahi, Bassey Asuquo, Kukogho Iruesiri Samson, Oladele Babajamu, Ismail Bala, Okeke Job Izuchukwu and Ceri Naz reviewed a total of 725 poems to select the top 100 poems to be included in an anthology scheduled for release early next year.
Also, a long list of 35 poems has been forwarded to the Chair of the Judging Panel, Professor Akachi Ezeigbo for critical assessment leading to the selection of the prize winning poems.
Our decision to delay the release of the result to the public is not unrelated to our quest to ensure that the judging process is not in any way compromised. However, we are aware of how highly anticipated the result is; we would endeavor to announce the top 100 poems and the longlist on or before 30th May, 2017.
The awards ceremony for the prize remains slated for 17th June, 2017 at University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. Over 200 exceptional student-poets who entered for the 2016 & 2017 editions of the prize will be awarded while supporters of the initiative would also be duly recognized at an event to be characterized by much fanfare.
