SPOKEN WAVES (ISSUE 4)

Spoken Waves (Issue 4)

Can we meet you?

Amarachi AttamahMy parents named me Ehijie Gabriel but I’m better known by my stage name, ‘ArchAngel’. I hail from the Esan speaking part of Edo state, southern Nigeria and I am currently studying petrochemical engineering at the University of Lagos. I’m a spoken word artiste and a Pan Afrikanist.

Why Spoken Word?

*laughs*. I get this question a lot. Well, I started writing poems way back in Junior Secondary school and when I started, it was coupled with music, just a means of escape from the depression of everyday life. As time went on, I realised I wasn’t only good at this, but I also found fulfillment in it, and I believe one must always follow the path that gives him/her fulfillment no matter how rocky it is.

What do you intend to achieve with Spoken word?

Whenever I put pen to paper, my goal is to enlighten minds. That being said, I hope by the time my spirit is harvested from this world I would have stirred enough minds of Nigerians and Afrikans to cause their spirits to march on to greatness that surpasses that which is expected of our race. I believe our beloved country would stop sinking once artist(e)s use their art form to keep the mind of the citizens focused on positivity no matter the wave of negativity that threatens to drown us. I know say Naija go beta based on say Na out of depth of decay Na him new life dey grow.

Can we meet you?

Solutionist ClementinaSure. My name is Clementina Edore Owumi. I am creativity personified: a writer by passion, an educator by divine calling and a hair technician by profession. For the art – poetry, I am called De Solutionist.

Why Spoken word?

Spoken word is a tool that can be used to write names, events, ideas etc. in the sand of life, making posterity rejoice at the sound of it. I strongly believe in the power of words; be it written or spoken and I know that I’ve been called as a vessel to right wrongs with words.

What do you intend to achieve with Spoken word?

I intend writing my name in the sand of life. Whenever and wherever my name is mentioned, posterity will rejoice at the sound of it. This first, others including material possessions, follow.

  1. Please to Ehijie Gabriel, can you share with us some of your challenges while still in music industry, and the name of the secondary school you went during your JSSCE and SSCE days?
