Nigeria’s foremost poetry performer, Dike Chukwumerije, will be live on stage at Eriata Heights in Ikorodu on Saturday 30th July for his spoken word poetry performance tour tagged “Man-Made Gods”.
Man-Made Gods, an enthralling stand-up poetry show, focuses on our political culture and the cult of the big man central to our lot as a people. Chukwumerije has already taken the poetry show to over 18 state capitals and counting, with Ikorodu being the next.
In letting the prospective audience know what to expect, Chukwumerije shared the following online:
“I am coming to Ikorodu this weekend. Don’t come expecting to see the Made In Nigeria (MIN) Poetry Show. No. I am coming alone with a solo spoken word theatre production titled Man-Made Gods (MMG). It’s one of 2 pure one-man spoken word shows I have in my juju bag. Yes. Come and see what a proper stand-up poetry show looks like. Not just standing behind a microphone reading one poem after another. No. You will see that Poetry was not invented by Williams Shakespear. Yes. You will see that Poetry is very much made in naija. Do not miss this.”
The Man-Made Gods Show is being hosted by the President of Poets in Nigeria (PIN), Eriata Oribhabor, who notes that “Poetry can be deployed as a tool for elevating our collective humanity and creating a consciousness that births positive changes.”
